B-5541: Replace bridges on I-40 over Thickety Road

Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to replace the bridges on I-40 over Thickety Road (S.R. 1513) in Haywood County as State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Project B-5541. The project is needed because the existing bridges have been identified as structurally deficient and are approaching the end of their useful life. Bridge inspectors have noted substantial deterioration of the concrete deck and substructure.
The proposed replacement bridges will be wide enough to accommodate future interstate widening. They will contain three 12-foot lanes in each direction. The bridges will be replaced in place, allowing for maintenance of two lanes of traffic in each direction during construction of the new bridges.
