Project Highlights

The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to replace the bridge on Old Mountain Road over I-40 in Iredell County. A new structure will be built to the east of the existing bridge. The new bridge will include two 12-foot travel lanes and 6-foot paved shoulders on each side. A roundabout will be constructed on each side of the bridge at the on/off ramps to facilitate the movement of traffic.

Old Mountain Road will remain open during construction. There will be no detour.

No relocations are anticipated with this project and right of way acquisition is anticipated to be minimal.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
