Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to close the existing at-grade railroad crossing on Doris Street. The project could potentially raise the existing grade on Old Walkertown Road to improve the existing roadway profile / at-grade railroad crossing on Oak Ridge Drive. The project will improve safety for the motoring public and reduce the potential for vehicle-train collisions.
Project History
• NCDOT identified this project due to the number of crashes at the intersection of Old Walkertown Road and Doris Street, as well as substandard geometry of the Doris Street railroad crossing.
• Potential mitigation efforts are needed due to higher traffic volumes at the Oak Ridge Drive/Old Walkertown Road intersection and the Carver School Road/Old Walkertown Road intersection.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
