Project Overview

The N.C. Department of Transportation proposed to improve the intersection on Six Forks Road at Durant Road in Wake County. This project will add northbound and westbound right-lane turns at the intersection. These improvements are needed to allow the Six Forks Road/Durant Road interesection to continue to function at an acceptable level of service as traffic volumes increase in the area. Motorist will have a dedicated lane turning right from Six Forks Road onto Durant Road and a dedicated lane turning right from Durant Road onto Six Forks Road. This is so thru-traffic will not be delayed.

This project will not require a detour route, and existing traffic patterns will be maintained throughout the construction period.

Project History

The project is one of many traffic and pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements contained in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s current (2024-2033) State Transportation Improvement Program.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
