CHARLOTTE TREE CANOPY ACTION PLAN SURVEY  

Project overview In November 2014, voters approved $20 million for the Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Program (CNIP). The Central/Kilborne/Norland intersection & roadway upgrade project was selected as one of the projects to move forward under the Central/Albemarle/Shamrock CNIP. This project is one portion of the Old Potter Road Trail that was presented during the CNIP pre-planning phase. Project limits are from approximately Elkin Lane to Roanoke Avenue. This is the central neighborhood node connecting the two sides of the Old Potter Road (as well as a neighborhood retail node along the future CityLYNX Gold Line). The project would include pedestrian and bicycle improvements at the intersection (and approaches) and new pocket park near the intersection of Central Avenue and Kilborne Drive to create community identity.     ​During the planning phase of the project, City staff worked with community members to reimagine the northeast corner of Central Avenue and Kilborne Drive as a neighborhood pocket park. The project is now in design and the City needs your input to give the new neighborhood space a name. The name for the pocket park will be displayed as signage near the intersection of Central Avenue and Kilborne Drive. The following are options that were identified based on past community engagement:   ·         Potter Place:  The future pocket park will be located on the remaining remnant of Old Potter Road which was once a major highway through the Carolinas. ·         Kilborne Corner:  On the corner of Kilborne Drive and Central Avenue, the future pocket park will be a link to Kilborne District Park. ·         Parque Central:  Central Avenue is one of Charlotte's most internationally diverse corridors. In many Hispanic American cities, Parque Central is the name for the main public space. ·         Provide Your Own Unique Idea:  Do you have another name that you would like considered? Four Mile Creek Greenway Trailhead Plaza is a small public space at the corner of Rea Road and Bevington Place. The City of Charlotte Urban Design Center chose the Four Mile Creek Trailhead Plaza as a project for their Placemaking Program’s innaugural year, along with six other projects across Charlotte. The City is working with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and the greater community to identify placemaking elements to transform the plaza into a more vibrant public space. Seating options, art, lighting, the treatment of pavement, and other interventions will all be considered. We’d love to hear from you!

For over twenty years, the City of Charlotte has invested in corridors because of the critical role each plays in supplying basic needs and opportunities for their communities.  In partnership with the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition, the City of Charlotte is leading a study that will serve as a first step in providing a vision for the corridor focused on the intersections of Remount, Clanton and Old Steele Creek. Over the course of two public workshops, we will discuss the existing corridor, identify opportunities for investment and envision future change. Help us create a shared vision for West Boulevard as a vibrant corridor into the city.  

'Grove & Field' is one of 33 winners of the 2017 Knights Cities Challenge! This project will increase vibrancy and connectivity along the Rail Trail by turning vacant, unused spaces into lively places to connect with nature and neighbors! Please take this survey to help inform the design and programming of this new Charlotte Rail Trail  project. The project will address two gaps along the Trail, located between Remount Road and Tremont Avenue, where a paved path does not exist (see map above). This project will create pathways that close the gaps making it safer for trail users. These gaps and adjacent land could also become lively places for trail users to congregate in a fun, unexpected way. Gap 1 is behind Off Broadway between the Solis Southline apartments and the 2400 South office building. Gap 2 is behind Autobell & Cannon Pharmacy between the 2400 South office building and the Camden Southline apartments. The gap behind Atherton Mill will be completed with the upcoming Edens redevelopment.
